Why Engineering Matters More Than Profile Weight

  There is one assumption that persists in the aluminium window industry, and still rears its ugly head on project sites: heavier aluminium equals a stronger, better window. It sounds reasonable. It should perform better if the profile is thicker. But in real-world use, the story is different. When the failure of aluminium windows occurs, the problem is hardly due to a lack of material. More often, the problem boils down to bad design, sloppy tolerances, weak joints or mismatched parts. In other words, thickness is rarely a problem. It is engineering. We consider aluminium windows to be systems and the elegance and coordination of components is far more significant than hosing up the profile weight.
